September 20, 2024 /SemiMedia/ — U.S. chipmaker Analog Devices, Inc. (ADI) said on Wednesday it had signed an agreement with India’s Tata Group to explore semiconductor manufacturing opportunities in the country. Tata Electronics, a unit of the conglomerate, plans to invest $14 billion to build India's first semiconductor fabrication plant in the western state of Gujarat and establish a chip assembly and testing facility in Assam, signaling a significant step in its push into electronics manufacturing.
Under the agreement, Tata Electronics and ADI will assess the potential to produce ADI products at Tata’s facilities. The companies also plan to use ADI’s semiconductor technologies in Tata Motors’ electric vehicles and in Tejas Networks’ telecom infrastructure.
While specific products to be manufactured in India were not disclosed, the collaboration is expected to bolster India’s growing ambitions in the global semiconductor industry. India has also attracted investment commitments from multinational firms, including NXP Semiconductors and Micron Technology, further accelerating its bid to become a key player in electronics manufacturing.
