January 7, 2025 /SemiMedia/ — Solidigm has officially discontinued its P44 Pro and P41 Plus solid-state drives (SSDs), the company’s only consumer-grade models, and is expected to exit the consumer SSD market entirely.
In addition to the discontinuation of these two consumer SSD models, Solidigm’s website no longer features consumer storage products on the homepage, nor are they listed in the product dropdown menu. Instead, the site now focuses almost entirely on its data center SSD business, with Google search results listing the site as "Solidigm enterprise SSD."
A Solidigm representative stated: "Last year, we informed our consumer SSD customers that the P41 Plus and P44 Pro would be our final consumer products, and for future consumer-grade products, they should transition to SK hynix's customer planning."
"Solidigm will focus on data center SSDs and has become a leader in large-capacity eSSDs for AI deployments, offering a broad portfolio for AI data pipelines and general computing workloads."
In 2021, SK hynix acquired Intel’s SSD business for $9 billion, forming Solidigm. The deal included employees, technologies, intellectual property, and wafer production. The full transfer of employees and assets is expected to be completed by March next year, by which time Solidigm’s consumer SSD production will have ceased for several months.
Since the acquisition, Solidigm has continued producing Intel’s 660p and 670p models, but production is set to end in October 2023.
Over a year after Solidigm dismantled its consumer SSD division, the P44 Pro and P41 Plus have now been discontinued. A source revealed that when Solidigm implemented “modest” layoffs in October 2023, the majority of the affected employees were those working on consumer storage products.
