According to Japanese media reports, due to the impact of Typhoon Haishen, Sony’s CMOS image sensor factories were forced to suspend operations today.
According to the report, Sony's three factories in Isahaya City, Nagasaki Prefecture, Kikuyo Town, Kumamoto Prefecture, and Kirishima City, Kagoshima Prefecture, were suspended from the afternoon of September 6th to 7th, and did not specify when to resume operation.
According to public information, Sony’s Nagasaki and Kumamoto factories mainly produce CMOS image sensors, and the Kagoshima factory mainly produces LSI and other products.
The report also pointed out that the Oita factory, another Sony factory producing CMOS sensors, is also considering shutting down.
In addition, Mitsubishi Electric’s Fukuoka and Kumamoto factories for the production of semiconductors and the Nagasaki facotry for emergency power generation systems have also ceased operations today.
So far, no semiconductor manufacturer has announced damage.
